How to Evade a Problematic Drain

Although we don’t give a lot of thought to them, drains are very important to us and it is not usually until something goes wrong with them that we tend to realise how important they are! Food is one of the worst culprits for blocking drains and is often responsible for the foul smell coming from problem plugholes! Make sure that you scrape all plates thoroughly before putting them in the sink, so that nothing can make its way into the plughole.

As well as food, oil is another big cause of drain problems – anyone who has seen the pictures of the fatbergs beneath the city of London will know the sort of damage that it can cause! When using oil, it is better to collect it all into a separate container and put it in the bin rather than disposing of it down the plughole.

Toilets are another problem area, and things being flushed down there that shouldn’t be can cause big problems. As well as the obvious, the only thing that should go down the toilet is toilet paper – things like sanitary towels, nappies and cotton buds should NOT be put in the toilet.
