How many times do you think about the locks in your home? Probably only when you need the services of a Locksmith Dublin if your key gets stuck or your lock no longer works. There are some incredible facts relating to locks and here are a few of them for you to have a look at.

  • The Pavlovo Arts College which is in Russia holds the Guiness World Record for the largest padlock. It is a title of 916 lbs and is over 56 inches tall and 41 inches wide. They even engraved the lock to make it more aesthetically pleasing.
  • Skeleton keys are thought to have got their name from the fact that the keys are often very basic and stripped down to their basic parts. Skeleton keys are used to open multiple locks.

  • Each night in the Tower of London the Ceremony of Keys takes place. This is where at 9.52pm each night the guards talk to one another using ceremonial words before locking the tower for the night. The keys are then escorted back to the Queen’s residence. It is thought that this ceremony has been conducted every night since the 14th Century, with the Escort to the Keys being the person responsible for placing the keys back in their safe place each night.
