Ardee and its Medieval heritage

The town of Ardee in the Republic of Ireland is an excellent place for a visit if you are on the Island. It can date its existence back many centuries, but, unlike other towns, many of its medieval buildings are still in existence. There are so many your phone will soon become filled up with pictures of them. So, it might be an idea to look for a new phone from a Vodafone Ardee specialist via https://kingcommunications.ie/vodafone-stores-near-me/ardee/ .

Ardee was a very strategic town. Its very layout is a reminder of its medieval past. The roads still follow the pattern of the medieval planners, plus it links to the Castle that lies within the town. Many towns in Ireland were walled due to their turbulent history. Ardee Castle is the most prominent of these structures, as you would expect. It’s the tallest medieval building left standing in Ireland. It was built in the 1500s, and since then, it has been a prison and a courthouse.

There are three fortified houses in the town, very typical of the design at the time. People lived in an unsure period, and whilst they wanted comfort, they also needed to be protected from attacks. The other main medieval structure is the source of a great myth. It’s all that remains of the Church of Kildemock. The legend states that the church literally jumped overnight when a non-Christian was buried within its walls. So it’s certainly worth taking a look to see if this is true.
