Best seaside towns for a day visit

As Brits, we love a day trip down to the beach with the family. However, with so many options, it can be difficult to choose the best one that suits you and your company. Beach attractions can range from desolate coves to bustling coastlines with arcades and family fun.

  • Shanklin, Isle of Wight

Although this one may be more out of the way, the Isle of Wight is just a short ferry ride away. When visiting Shanklin you can get a real island feel, with lots of great walks along the coastline. It also has great family attractions too such as crazy golf, renting out a beach hut or going to one of the many beach-side restaurants or cafes.

  • St Ives, Cornwall

This is a popular choice as a vibrant and buzzing town full of colourful architecture and bunches of art exhibitions. An example of the art at St Ives is ‘Tate’ where there are talks, and all sorts of art, with an idyllic beach location. It has also become a hub for fishermen, with vast clear water planes full of a variety of species.

  • Worthing, West Sussex

Salcombe’s unique estuary location is what makes it stand out. Whether you have a boat of your own or fancy a go, it is a water sports hot spot. Why not try a paddleboard or take the quick water taxi over to the neighbouring beaches for an ice-cream? Its picturesque town with small old-fashioned streets adds to its overall charm, as well as hosting plenty of coastal cuisines from fish and chips to gourmet crab sandwiches!

  • Weston-Super-Mare

If you like the buzz of a funfair, then this seaside town may be the perfect visit for your family. The location of Weston is perfect if you are keen to reduce your travel time, and like Worthing it has a variety of pier arcade games and beach attractions! The beach here is vast and so there are plenty of places to explore, or alternatively set up camp for the day.
