Doctor in the house

There are many films centred around the exploits of Doctors. It’s just a natural subject, Doctors are seen as being general intelligent and well minded liberal sorts so they make pretty good heroes and heroines. They can also have a reputation for being a bit wild, certainly when they are in their student medical days. At least they’ll get a good grounding if they study the Clinical Training Courses that are available from https://www.tidaltraining.co.uk/clinical-training-courses/.

Doctor in the house is the first in a long running series of films. They are slightly ribald and full of colourful humour being based on the real life experiences of the author on which the films are adapted.

The film centres around 4 male medical students. They face 5 years at the fictional St Swithins. The main hero is  Simon Sparrow, played by Dirk Bogarde. He is determined to use the time engaging in immoral pursuits. He is not alone. Grimsdyke is a wastrel who has an income given to him as long as he is a student. As a result he keeps failing the final exam so he doesn’t have to become a Doctor and still gets the money. Benskin is a terrible womaniser and Taffy Evans is obsessed with Rugby.

Grimsdyke is told he has to pass or he won’t be able to get married to his fiancee. He still fails as does Benskin. Taffy passes and so does Simon, but only after narrowly avoiding being expelled with the help of Sir Lancelot Spratt, played by the incredible James Robertson Justice.
